Patricia Clarkson: "I often choose not to see myself." Does this surprise you?
Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson has been cultivating her long and successful movie, theatre and tv career, making her movie debut in The Untouchables in 1987. With an extensive filmography, she has shown many times the complexity and depth of a great lead and character actor and unusually for a 60+ woman in Hollywood, her nuanced and star studded career is showing no signs of slowing down.
And yet.
When asked recently on Radio 4's Film Programme if she likes seeing herself on screen she said:
"I don't like it and I'll never like it. It's very difficult for me. I often choose not to see myself. But then I realise it's selfish because I need to see the project, I need to see other people's work. So I make myself but I never watch a film with an audience ever ever ever. “
How do you feel about being on camera? Is it possible to see yourself as you really are? Would you dare to show your complexity as well as your power?
